Unfinished Business: The Right to Play

The eleven artists who made this animation are serving a total of 487 years plus nine life sentences in Stateville Correctional Center, a maximum security prison. “Doing time” means having many idle hours, but no freedom or control over how you spend those hours. That is one of the central punishments of life behind bars.

We worked with Prison + Neighborhood Arts Project and teaching artist Damon Locks to facilitate an art class at Stateville. The artists engaged with themes of identity, play, freedom, and time to create this piece. Please view video in Google Chrome or Safari.
